TOURNAMENTS
Minnesota Bass Fly Rod Challenge

I started the Minnesota Bass Fly Rod Challenge in 2002. I designed these tournaments to be more of a fun and educational gathering than a serious competition. The entry fee is a low $40 per team. All of the money from the entry fees is paid back, and I always have a bunch of prizes to give away at the weigh-in. The sponsors have been great at getting me everything from hats and shirts, to rods and reels, and virtually everyone who comes to the weigh-in will win something.

2005 Minnesota Bass Fly Rod Challenge schedule

Sunday June 12 - Forest Lake - 3rd Lake access

Sunday July 10 - Big Marine Lake - Southeast access

Sunday August 14 - Mississippi River - Champlin access
(Alternate - Coon Lake - Northeast access)

Sunday September 11 - Medicine Lake - French park access

Minnesota Bass Fly Rod Challenge Rules

Entry Fee: $40 per team (2 anglers)

These tournaments are designed to be FUN and EDUCATIONAL to all participants. Please keep this in mind while reading these rules, and while participating!

These tournaments are FLY FISHING ONLY. Spinning or casting rods, reels, lures, bait, or any other tackle not used in FLY FISHING are not allowed in any competitors boat.

All boats must have an aerated livewell or cooler. No fish baskets or stringers. Keeping your fish alive should be a primary concern during the tournament.

Flies with a SINGLE BARBLESS hook are allowed. Flies with multiple hooks or barbed hooks are illegal.

Flies must be constructed in a "traditional" manner. No diving lips or spinner blades may be used in any way.

Floating and Sinking fly lines are allowed.

The fly may only be moved by the angler. Trolling or drifting with the wind to move the fly is illegal.

All competitors should stay a minimum of 50 yards from other competitors.

Life vests must be worn while the outboard motor is running.

Dead bass at weigh-in will only count for half their weight.

Teams should have their boat in the water by 7:45 am.

The weigh-in will be at 2:00 pm. Boats arriving late will be deducted 1 pound for every minute they are late.

The limit is 4 bass per team, 12" minimum size. Do not bring undersized fish to the weigh-in. Anyone attempting to weigh and undersized bass will have the weight of the fish deducted from their total weight.

Breaking of any rules, or anything resembling unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification.

Prize money will be split up among the teams bringing in the three largest bags of bass.

Prizes will also be awarded for the biggest and the second biggest bass.

Everyone who comes to the weigh-in will be eligible for prize drawings.
